I am the light for the world! – 17 February 2009
Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.” John 8:12 [CEV]
We are often told to follow Jesus, but what does it mean? The Greek word used is the same as would be used to mean a soldier following his captain, a slave accompanying his master wherever he goes, a person seeking advice from an expert, a good citizen obeying the laws of the state and a pupil following a teacher’s line of argument. So as followers of Christ we are to give all in obedience. Turning what Jesus says around, when we go off independently it is as if we are stumbling in the dark with no guide, map or light.
Imagine you are in a dark unfamiliar place and Jesus is holding the only light, you will need to stay very close to him in order to find your way. How will you stay close to Jesus?
