Lost Love – 9 February 2009
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 [NIV]
Where has our love gone? What hope is there for the world if the church has lost it’s first love? Let me ask you a question, do you love your neighbour as yourself? Do you think that the church is loving and welcoming to new members? Are you on the lookout for opportunities to love others?
When I was a teenager, I had a lot of hate in my heart. If you listen to the lyrics of many songs today in the charts you will be amazed by how many contain bad language and swearing which is mostly “beeped out” so they can be played on the radio. One of the worst cases I came across was the rap song by Eamon (entitled F*** it! I Don’t Want You Back) which was released in 2004, and reached No. 1 for many weeks in the UK charts in spite of it having a record number of expletives (33, according to my research!). Hardly a traditional love song – more of a “hate song”, with a lovely backing tune. The full impact of the words didn’t hit me until I heard the unedited version on uncensored MTV, and I realized the brutality of the hateful lyrics.
As Christians we should stand out from the world as loving and caring people. Do you find the temptation to utter the F-word or similar is too hard to resist? Do we face an assault on our loving nature?
Lord, help me to have an attitude of love in all my dealings with people today. Amen. |
