Mercy does not run out – 1 December 2008

Over the summer I had this explained to me very clearly.  I want to try and share the insight that was given to me about God’s grace.  I was at a Christian festival, and the speaker used an analogy, which I am going to copy because it was good and there is no need to change it.

Imagine you want a coffee from Starbucks, but you don’t have any money. You ask the guy in the shop if he can give it to you for free.  He says yes.  The next day you go in again, and ask for another free coffee.  Again you are given a coffee for free.  This goes on for a few days, never paying anything. Each time you asked you worried you would be told no.

Is this how we see God’s grace sometimes?

Now imagine someone (this man who told the story used his wife as an example, but I don’t have one to use!) gave the man £100 and said to pay for the coffees with it and if it ran low call for more money. You would never be told there was no coffee.

Because it has already been paid for!

Jesus paid for all the sin’s you will ever commit, so you don’t need to worry that God will ever say you’ve have had enough for free – it is not free. Jesus died for it.
