New Associate Vicar
for the Parish of St. Matthew’s and St. Oswald’s

The Bish
op of Coventry announced this weekend the appointment of Tim Norman as Associate Vicar of the parish of St. Matthew’s and St. Oswald’s to work alongside the Vicar, Martin Saxby. It is hoped that Tim will be able to take up this appointment sometime during March 2009.

Tim and his wife Vanessa will be coming to us from St Mark's Church, Versailles where Tim has been A ssociate Pastor since 2006. St Mark's is a church with strong commitment to the ministry of the Holy Spirit as seen in New Wine and Soul Survivor values. Like St. Matthew’s & St. Oswald’s, they are also keen to build a church which is welcoming to anyone who is seeking meaning and God - learning from churches such as Willow Creek.

In his early teens, Tim was challenged by the question of meaning behind the material world and the beauty and order that is there. This led to a period of exploration and discovery, in getting to know Jesus Christ as friend and Lord.

Coming from a background in Chemical research, Tim has a particular interest in the interaction between science, philosophy and religion. This interest was greatly encouraged during studies at Cambridge University and a PhD in Chemistry at University College, London.

He was a Pastoral Assistant at St. Barnabas Church, Kensington before training for ordination at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. This was followed by a time as Lay Pastor at St Aldate’s Church in Oxford before becoming curate at Chipping Norton. In 2004, Tim became Assistant Chaplain at St Michael’s Church, an international church in central Paris.

Vanessa's faith came alive while studying at Oxford - challenged both by the writings of Dante, and as she began to read the Bible with friends whose Christian faith clearly made a difference in their lives.

Their son, Samuel, was born in April 2003. They are expecting another boy due mid-Jan 2009.

Tim's personal mission is to live a life marked by life-changing intimacy with Jesus and,
with others, to enjoy the great adventure of life that God has given us. Vanessa & Tim are particularly keen to see as many people as possible become all they were meant to be in Christ. Over the last few years God has led them on a journey deeper into healing and wholeness, and a desire to encourage everyone to become all they were meant to be in Christ with a spirituality which fits who they are and where they are in their life's journey.
