Scripture 6 November 2008
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:9-11
Words, in written from, can be an avenue of connection with God. The Bible is a living word of God that speaks into our lives today just as much as it has ever done; as long as it’s opened from time to time. As we read the words inspired by God, of what Jesus said and did, of correspondence between early Christians, words of prophecy and praise, stories of God’s chosen people, then we connect with God, and are made aware of Him. If we open the Bible and read those words regularly then we can establish a regular point of connection in our day to day routine. When we can spend longer meditating on the words then the connection can be stronger.
Words from other sources can also connect us with God; the words of formal liturgy can be very effective, words of written prayer, books on aspects of Christian life & living, verses on calendars or posters or fridge magnets, e-mailed devotionals even; all can establish a connection with God – the more that we are exposed to words of or about God then the more often we can connect.
Are there materials that we can put into our home or work environment that would help us in connecting?
Words can also help us connect with God when used in song, often in a powerful way. Worship songs or hymns can be played when doing anything else, and there is then the option of joining in – singing out loud while driving along; I’m sure you all do it too!
Today, ask God to show you how you might use words, in whatever form, to connect with Him that little bit more.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105
Lord, we thank you for Jesus, the living word of God
Amen |
