Psalm 119:165 - 29 October 2008
‘Great peace have they who love your law and nothing can make them stumble’
Psalm 119:165 [NIV]
Peace. I like the words to the Taize chant ‘My Peace’:
‘My peace I leave you, my peace I give you: Trouble not your hearts. My peace I leave you, my peace I give you:
Be not afraid’.
I like to listen and sing along to this chant repeatedly and meditate upon this peace that only God can give. A peace that is surely about a wholeness of being at peace with God, in God asking God for His peace, experiencing that peace, that true peace which only God can give to us in our relationships with each other, with our community and neighbourhoods.
The psalmist is talking about a great peace that will be ours. A peace, which should be dynamic. A peace which is energetic, and active not static. But a peace, which is about an external peace, as much as it is about an inward attitude. Ask God each day in our prayers for His peace, but also that it is a peace not kept to ourselves but we share with others in our greetings, actions, words.
Shalom.
