From the Old I travel to the New… - 12 Sept 2008
… Keep me traveling along with you
Do you remember this song from school? I found myself singing it today as I pushed my trolley round the supermarket, so it has become my final inspiration. I hope it may turn out a little cheerier than the rest of the week!!
This week has been a week of changes and of life moving on for me, so I found comfort in these words. Two of my children have started new schools, one in Reception and one moving to Secondary. Big steps for us all. And so, for the first time in many years, I am faced with the prospect of having no children at home in the daytime. I have spent quite a bit of time over the summer pondering on what comes next for me. Being a mummy is what I do – it’s the best job I have had. But somehow, I am not needed quite so much in the daytime now – so what do I do? The prospect of becoming a Domestic Goddess was dismissed almost as soon as it arrived!
I do not cope with change very well – I like things the same, and I especially like being with my children. For me the school holidays are welcomed and embraced as we get the chance to have lazier mornings, and spend time enjoying each other. But I know that now it is time to move from the old into the new, and it is my prayer that I will be able to keep motivated and keep on traveling along with God by my side, and that very soon He will have shown me my new path and my direction. He will lead me by the hand into this new season.
My beloved said to me “Arise my love, my fair one, and come with me. For the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers are springing up and the time of the singing of the birds has come. Yes, spring is here! The leaves are coming out and the grapevines are also in blossom; how delicious they smell! Arise my love, my fair one, and come with me” Song of Songs 2: 10-13
The Spring has arrived for me. I am entering a time of new growth and walking in new pastures. Things are changing and I do not quite know how they will look as they grow. I am excited about what is ahead and look forward to sampling the grapes and smelling the flowers as I take one more step along the road.
“One more step along the road I go…… And it’s from the old I travel to the new, keep me traveling along with you.”
Lord, no matter where we are journeying at the moment, be it on beautiful paths or though dark woods, in well trodden ground or into pastures new, please walk beside us every step of the way. Help us know your guiding hand is there when we stumble or when we need companionship. Thank you that you are there to laugh and smile as we enjoy the views, and that you wipe our tears and share our burdens when the journey gets tougher. No journey is impossible when you are with us. Thank you, my friend. AMEN. |
