Journey into the Unknown – 11 Sept 2008
As I sat witnessing God’s power at work in people during one evening celebration at New Wine, I reflected on the times when it had been me standing for ministry, and being overwhelmed by God’s power and anointing on me. It is fantastic to see God anointing folk and filling them for His work, and wondering what great things are ahead for them as they serve Him. But that then made me wonder what it had all been about for me! I have wept, wailed, groaned and screamed, but what was it for God, why did you fill me if you’re not going to do any thing with it? And why does it not seem to happen any more?
And that was when it hit me! I realized that years ago, as God anointed me for His work, when he gave me a passion for the homeless and a heart for the poor it was all about a much longer journey. We don’t get that blessing and then go straight out and use it – sometimes God starts that process years before we are actually called to use what He has given us. For me, my anointing and that hearts desire came before I had my children, and yet it was not until last year and my trip to Mozambique that God brought to fruition what he had called me to do. Whilst He had given me the heart, He then had to lead me through the journey of parenting my own children before I was ready to go out and meet the children and my new family in Beira. He had to give me the life skills as well as the heart in order to fulfill His calling.
Sometimes we may not really understand why we are being led somewhere by God. I had no idea why I should be going to Mozambique – I didn’t really feel I had anything to offer, no great skills. I was just me, a mum and wife. And yet, that was actually all I needed to be - just me. That was the skill that God had given me – the ability to be a mother, friend, companion, to go simply with my caring hands and a lap for babies to sit on.
If you feel you are being taken on a journey into the unknown, just go with it. It may feel a bit scary, but with God by your side, and with His blessing you have all you will need.
Off you go…….. |
