You will seek me - 19 June 2008
We have looked at one response to the fact that God has plans to proper us; today we look at another.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” Jeremiah 29:11-14
For God’s plans for us to become real we need to seek God, we need to seek God with all our heart; and he promises that we will find him. We should seek God with all our heart just as we are commanded to love God with all of our heart; “The most important one (commandment), answered Jesus is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:29-30
Seeking and loving the Lord with all our hearts means making God our number one priority. That may mean doing something God wants before something that we might want. It may mean giving time to God as the first thing that we do rather than after we have satisfied our own wants and desires. It might mean using our worldly possessions to serve God rather than serving ourselves.
The more that we connect with God, however we do it, the more we will have the strength, the power, the will and the desire to live as he would want. The more that we seek and know the love of God, the more we can show that love to others and be the light of Christ in the world.
Where is God on your priority list today?
Lord, give us the desire to want to seek you and know you more and more.
Amen |
