Repentance - 10 June 2008
“I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance” Luke 5:32
When we have surrendered to God in prayer we must first face that sense of failure and sin that is that barrier between ourselves and God. So we must confess our sins and failings and ask for his forgiveness.
But how? Does it need to be long lists of our failings our falling short of the will of God for us? Can we not just sit in that quiet contemplation and inwardly cry out “Lord, have mercy; Christ have mercy” or “Jesus forgive”
Sometimes our sin can be such a barrier that perhaps we feel unable to pray and a few simple words is adequate enough to say we are sorry and to start breaking down that barrier, that wall built up between ourselves and God.
We can then surely just sit in the peace of God, the quiet mystery that is God and feel that awesome presence as we are forgiven. |
