Devoted to the Truth – 27 May 2008
The early Christians were devoted to the Apostles’ teaching, they were fortunate in having these first hand accounts of the life and teaching of Jesus, and their interpretation of the Old Testament prophecies and their fulfilment in Jesus. The teaching of the Apostles was vital for the early church to establish the truth about Jesus; many different stories were circulating at the time and false teachings, which the apostle Paul refers to in his letters.
The teaching of the Apostles is available to us today in the Bible and it is still vital for revealing the truth of Jesus to us; for sharing sound doctrine, for rebuking error and for training us in right living.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
We have so many questions about life, its purpose, it’s meaning and God’s plan for us – most of them are answered in the Bible.
“For best results follower the maker’s instructions” used to be on the front of every manual and it holds good for the bible. Too often we think we know better, as with any new purchase, we jump straight in and do things our own way, whilst a moment with the manual can save us from error and save us time.
If we are devoted to Jesus, one of the ways we can demonstrate that commitment to him is through our readiness to spend time with him in reading his word to us. Have you picked your bible up yet today? |
