Eternal Life - 21 March 2008

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

On the day that Jesus was crucified, dying on the cross, his disciples could not have understood what was going on. The joy was to come for them on the third day. We, his disciples of today, know the end of the story; and what an ending!

God showed the greatest love, to the whole world, giving his one and only Son for us, for our salvation.

Jesus, the Son of God, lived as a man on this earth. He was obedient to the will of his Father and went to the cross. He paid the price for the sin of the world.
He defeated death and as a result we are free; we inherit the spoils of the victory – eternal life in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the Saviour of the world; Jesus is our Saviour.

We are heaven bound and we should live our lives in that knowledge, storing up treasure in heaven by showing the love of Jesus to others; proclaiming and demonstrating the kingdom of heaven in how we lead our lives.

Take time today, and make time every day over this Easter weekend to be still with God. Reflect on the magnitude of what God has done through Jesus Christ. Take stock of what being a follower of Jesus means to you and ask the Holy Spirit to change you evermore into the person God created you to be, living with the certainty that you are bound for heaven.

Lord let your kingdom come,
Let your will be done;
In each of our lives.
