Death is defeated - 20 March 2008

“Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death is your victory? Where, O death is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:54b-57

As followers of Jesus Christ we are on the winning side. Death is defeated and sinners are reconciled (that’s all of us!). Jesus has won the victory; we inherit the spoils.

Jesus, through His death and resurrection has opened the way to the Father. The barrier between humankind and God has been broken down. We can know, and be known by, God on a personal basis, as individuals. We have the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.

We live in permanent relationship with God; a God who loves us, a God who is faithful and true and who has promised to remain with us, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

Relationships that work require investment of our time, our attention and our energy.

Because we are living in relationship with God we can spend time in his presence; so take time today to do just that! Think on where God has guided you, comforted you, supported you, shown his love for you; and thank him for it.

Lord, give us the desire to spend time in your presence, deepening the relationship with you that Jesus won for us at such cost.

Amen
