Give the glory to God (1) – 25 February 2008
“They said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens”” Genesis 11:4a [TNIV]
I would think it is good to build nice things for God.
It sounds good doesn’t it – to build grand things for God. I love that when I go into a cathedral it makes you look up. It makes me look to God, to see some of his glory.
The next part of the verse says:- “so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” Genesis 11:4b [TNIV]
The people who built the tower didn’t do it to make God glorious or to people look towards Him, they did it to make themselves seem mighty. He does not love that - He scatters them around the earth and changes the language.
God is in control.
Be careful that what you do is really for God – even if it seems to be majestic. Make sure everything you do points to God.
The glory should always be his. |
