Starting the Plan - 8 February 2008
Spiritual journeys are not easy, but very rewarding. And if this Lent season you decide to go on such a pilgrimage, whether physically or mentally, it will be a good decision.
I mentioned yesterday that part of the journey, especially the beginning, may seem unpleasant, especially if you begin it in an already unhappy state, if you are dissatisfied with your spiritual life, or have any other anxiety. All these contribute to you feeding on those negative things as you remember your past life. However, if you go through those low points and then go on to review your high points it will put things in perspective. You will find relationships that mean so much to you: your family, your close friends, experiences that have encouraged or blessed you; people who said things that caused you to change direction, and you were pleased by that. The realisation that you have done things you dreamt of is such a boost to one’s confidence. So go on now to think about your spiritual life. When did you meet with God? Was it before conversion? Were people praying for you? They loved you enough to think of you and that is nice to know. How did you come to faith? What difference did it make to you? If it was a long while ago, think of the spiritual high points and low points in your life and what helped in those times.
If you do these things deliberately asking God to be there as you do it, you may find, as I did, that it is an enriching experience and you may even find that God speaks to you in ways He has never done before. And what a way to go on into this Lent season, looking forward to that daily little walk with your Father.
God Bless you on your little walks!
