Called by God – 8 January 2008
Knowing we are chosen by God is a wonderful and liberating truth, but we are also called by God for a purpose and we need to discern our God given purpose if we are to do His will.
Every single Christian has a “calling” and knowing what God wants us to do, understanding his will for our lives is essential to be fulfilled in our Christian life. Without this understanding we fall into the traps of burn out, balancing demands, or dabbling in too many things.
This is one of the top issues for Christians today – discerning out of all the competing demands how we should use our time energy and talents. Balancing our responsibilities towards our families, our work, and to Christ and his church.
We can only do this when we discover God's priorities for our lives. Rick Warren, in “The Purpose Driven Life” writes:
“Don’t settle for just achieving “the good life”, because the good life is not good enough. Ultimately it doesn’t satisfy. You can have a lot to live on and still have nothing to live for. Aim instead for “the better life” – serving God in a way that expresses your heart. Figure out what you love to do – what God gave you a heart to do – and then do it for his glory.”
Paul put it this way:
“For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph 2:10 (NIV)
Pray that God will lead you in this today – and that you may be willing to follow! |
