The coming King Friday 21 December 2007
In that day the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him and the place of his rest shall be glorious. Isaiah 11:10
I may have got this wrong but it seems that this is referring to a day that has not yet happened. It refers to the verses before when it is promised that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord and peace would reign.
This is the glorious hope of Christmas; the hope of the resurrection; the hope of rallying to Jesus, the fight over, and enjoying his rest. I spent some time at the crematorium today, seeing how it all worked. Faced with so many caskets of ashes I was struck again by the finality of death and the incredible futility of life if there is no resurrection.
This Christmas, Jesus offers us all we need to live well, an abundant life full of the knowledge of God. He assures us of a glorious future throughout eternity.
But it’s not just for us; it’s for all peoples and all nations so we mustn’t keep it to ourselves, others need to know.
Lord, help us to share your offer of life with our friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours |
